The Transport Canberra transition team is hard at work

MEEGAN Fitzharris says the community will soon have an opportunity to have their say on ways to improve Canberra’s public transport network ahead of the introduction of Transport Canberra on 1 July.

The New Minister for Transport and Municipal Services said ACT Government will undertake an extensive survey to get community feedback on the current public transport network, and seek input to inform the future design and delivery of an integrated bus and light rail system.

“Transport Canberra is coming and we want to know how we can make sure it meets the needs of our growing city,” Meegan said.

“This new agency will be founded on a strong customer service focus with a goal of winning new public transport customers. So it’s vital we develop a good understanding of what customers want and how they would like to use an integrated bus and light rail system.

“A comprehensive survey will take place in April 2016 to seek feedback from current public transport users and non-users to identify how to best improve Canberra’s public transport system so it becomes more convenient, efficient, affordable and reliable.

“I am keen to learn more about how we can encourage Canberrans who may not be regular users of public transport, to give it a go.

“The survey will also inform how to we can better integrate public transport with active travel options including walking and cycling, and provide a more detailed picture of how people move around Canberra.”

Further details of the survey will be announced in April, and will include opportunities for online feedback as well as telephone and ‘onboard’ surveys.

The survey will be overseen by the Transport Canberra transition team in the lead up to the commencement of Transport Canberra on 1 July 2016.
