The TIME is ripe for designer Domenic

CANBERRA  designer Domenic Bahmann has just hit the international scene, with one of his illustrations featuring in TIME Magazine.

The story he has illustrated for TIME accompanies a feature by Katy Steinmetz, called “Inside the efforts to finally identify the size of the nation’s LGBT population,”  under the headline,  “How Many Americans are Gay?” His illustration shows an imagined rainbow- coloured meter.

Bahmann, a Munich-born  multidisciplinary visual artist and designer who lives and works in Canberra, creates visual content and art for campaigns, websites, apps and magazines. His work has been featured on many design websites and magazines including “New Scientist”, “Australian House & Garden Magazine”, “The Independent” and “il Post”.

By day he works as a designer with local agency Six Fingers Design and Communication, by night he works on illustrations for various publications, all the while challenging  himself with his personal art projects, including stopthinkmake.com where you can view his work.

“It was an amazing feeling to get the call from my agent,” he says, “my dream has always been to work for such a well-known and respected publication.”

Designers around the world compete to be included TIME’s pages, he says, but for Bahmann the fact that his art can sometimes tackle social issues makes the assignment more meaningful.

“Creating is fun,” he says,  “The most exciting part are the spontaneous ideas and insights that can be turned into art pieces. I try to see the world in the way I used to when I was a child. Staying playful and curious isn’t always easy in our busy modern world.”

Bahmann says his big break came when he joined agency The Jacky Winter Talent Agency a year ago.
