RESULTS are in from the Australia Council’s third National Arts Participation Survey showing, unsurprisingly, that ACT residents are avid theatre goers with 63 per cent attending theatre in 2016, compared to 41 per cent of other Australians, or that they are more likely than other Australians to feel that they have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the arts – 65 per cent compared to 50 per cent.
CONGRATULATIONS to Canberra artist Jennifer Baird, who was highly commended in the Waverley Art Prize 2017 for her hand-coloured lino print “George Baldessin meets Andy Warhol”. NARRABUNDAH College Players, directed by Sophie Benassi, are staging perhaps the world’s most famous verbatim theatre piece, “The Laramie Project”. Based on a real-life story from 1998, when a 21-year-old gay was beaten and left for dead, the play is based on more than 400 interviews. At the Hawk Theatre, Narrabundah College, August 1-5. INSPIRED by great Shakespearean stories about love, lies, family and betrayal, Australian dance company Dance Editorial Productions is staging “Love is Love”, a hip hop and contemporary dance show.
