Arts in the City / Another silly comedy takes off

“Around the World in 80 Days”… at The Q, Queanbeyan, August 2-5.

JOINING “The 39 Steps” as one of the silliest comedies on the circuit, the stage adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in 80 Days” is coming to town. The famous tale of Phileas Fogg’s balloon ride is billed as suitable for adults, families and children over seven years. At The Q, Queanbeyan, August 2-5. Bookings to 6285 6290 or theq.net.au

RESULTS are in from the Australia Council’s third National Arts Participation Survey showing, unsurprisingly, that ACT residents are avid theatre goers with 63 per cent attending theatre in 2016, compared to 41 per cent of other Australians, or that they are more likely than other Australians to feel that they have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the arts – 65 per cent compared to 50 per cent.

COUNTRY luminaries Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole will be back in town with a tour based on their album “The Great Country Songbook, Volume II”. It’ll be nostalgia time, with classic duets and show stoppers such as “Jackson” and their personal favourite, “You’re the Reason Our Kids are Ugly”. Singers Beccy Cole and Adam Harvey… together again on August 4.

NARRABUNDAH College Players, directed by Sophie Benassi, are staging perhaps the world’s most famous verbatim theatre piece, “The Laramie Project”. Bookings to sophie.benassi@ed.act.edu.au

KATE Blackhurst, who directed Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” for Rep in 2014, is now directing Lally Katz’s “Neighbourhood Watch”. It’s an all-star cast, but we don’t know who’s playing the terrifying alsatian dog in the show. At Theatre 3, August 4-19. Bookings to canberrarep.org.au or 6257 1950.
