Sally Greenaway… first Canberra-based composer to make the love listings.

CANBERRA composer Sally Greenaway’s choral love song “Stay Awhile” has come in at number 56 on the ABC Classic FM Top 100 “Love” countdown. Looking at the statistics, she says she’s the first composer under the age of 50 and the only Canberra-based composer to make the listings. Of the call-to-action asking people to vote for the piece at citynews.com.au Greenaway says, “Wowee!”

Nicolette Fraillon… Queen’s Birthday honour.

THERE were former local arts identities named in the recent Queen’s Birthday honours lists: Nicolette Fraillon AM, director of the School of Music from 1998-2002 and now music director and chief conductor of The Australian Ballet; Anne (“Anna”) Gray AM, head of Australian Art at the NGA from 2001- 2016 and head of art at the Australian War Memorial, 1980-1995; and Patricia (“Pat”) Joyce Harry OAM, former lecturer and teacher at the Canberra School of Art, Canberra Technical College and Daramalan College.

“CONFIDENT Collecting” returns to M16 Artspace this winter over four Mondays with a line-up of speakers to help answer questions such as: “Will what we buy stand the test of time?” The next session is “Seeing into Abstraction” with NGA curator Lara Nicholls and contemporary artist Hamilton Darroch. SKYE McIntosh and the Australian Haydn Ensemble will be joined by forte-pianist Melvyn Tan, who will play Mozart’s concerto No.18 in B flat major. ARTSOUND FM’s Winter Solstice Book and Music Fair will be held at the art station’s studios, Manuka Arts Centre, corner of Manuka Circle and NSW Crescent, 9am-4pm, on Sunday, June 25. There’ll be books, CDs, DVDs and Vinyl.
