Arts / City Walk show raises money for charity

Getting ready – the marquee
NO fewer than 350 paintings from Brisbane, Goulburn, Yass, South Coast, Canberra and Queanbeyan will go on show in City Walk tomorrow (September 23) as part of the week-long Queanbeyan Art Society’s 10th Charity Art Show.

But it was a near thing. The Society’s president, Barry Cranston, told “CityNews” that for several years the Queanbeyan Art Society has had Defence tents made available for its charity show but that this year they could not be supplied.

But with just two weeks notice of this, the art society raised $5000, the cost of commercial marquees, through donations from the ACT government, Queanbeyan Leagues Club, and private donors Jenny and Richard Lawson.

Every year the Queanbeyan Art Society supports a different charity and this year the show will be supporting Motor Neurone Disease through its sales.

The show will be officially opened by ACT Arts Minster Gordon Ramsay at 12.30pm tomorrow, Saturday, September 23. All welcome.
