Arts / Double winners in Wakakirri

TORRENS Primary School and Wanniassa Junior School have been crowned ACT primary champions with their performances in the Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival at Canberra Theatre.

Torrens won its nomination with its performance, “A Gift of Memories”, dealing with the question of dementia, while Wanniassa, as previously reported, performed a Samoan traditional tale, “Nuu Suatia”.

The two school teams of actor/dancers are now in the running for the Wakakirri National Story Award, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Now in its 25th year for primary aged students, Wakakirri is the largest performing arts event for schools in Australia, involving over 20,000 primary and secondary students in 240 schools across the country.
