Arts in the City / Troupe of Priscillas heading for The Playhouse

THE inaugural, 10-day Sculpture on Clyde Festival, running August 25-September 3, will see artworks installed along the foreshore near the bridge at Batemans Bay. The top acquisitive prize is worth $20,000 and the local Chamber of Business and Tourism has already purchased a sculpture from artist Jesse Graham to kick off a planned sculpture walk.

IN “Poetry and Place”, leading Canberra textile artist Dianne Firth has been inspired by works of poetry from 2016’s “Poetry on the Move”, where poets wrote about their experience of nature and landscape in Canberra. At Belconnen Arts Centre, August 25-September 17.

THE spotlight shines on French New Wave actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, showcasing restored versions of six of his most renowned films from 1961 to 1974, in the 2017 Alliance Française Classic Film Festival, at  Palace Cinemas, August 31-September 3. Bookings to palacecinemas.com.au

LLEWELLYN Choir’s next concert will see soloists Sonia Anfiloff, Ben Connor and Michael Martin join the Llewellyn Sinfonia and the choir to perform Ariel Ramírez’s famous “Misa Criolla” (Creole Mass) and British composer and pianist Will Todd’s “Mass in Blue”. ARAB women are the focus of the 14th annual Arab Film Festival Australia when it returns to the National Film and Sound Archive’s Arc Cinema with films from Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Tunisia and Australia on September 1-2.
