“CITYNEWS” has been alerted by Canberra actor and TV presenter Kristian Mynott of his role in the movie “Spirit of the Game”, which is now in general release in Australia.

The story, although ostensibly an American, has a distinctive Australian angle. In the lead up to the 1956 Melbourne Olympic games, a group of Mormon missionaries are tasked with helping the fledgling Australian basketball team compete in its first-ever Olympics.

And it’s based on the true story of the Mormon Yankees, a team of Australia-based missionaries. Alas, they quickly discover that the people of Melbournites have little interest in the message spread by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Featuring American actor Kevin Sorbo, better known from the series “Hercules”, the movie enjoyed modest success during the American run that preceded its Australian release and also features Aussie performers like Marina Prior, Mark Mitchell and Denise Roberts.

Mynott plays the character of assistant coach “Snowy”, in “Spirit of the Game”, which was directed by Mormon director, producer, screenwriter, and former actor, Darren Scott.

Dendy Cinemas recently held a private screening in Canberra for the friends and family of Mynott and invited media to acknowledge the participation of local actor in an international film.
