Arts / ‘River of Art’ festival continues

THE popular south coast festival, River of Art, continues apace from Ulladulla to the Victorian border until May 30.

Fun at River of Art
Because of heavy rain last week, the organisers have rescheduled the planned Creators Bazaar at Moruya Country Markets. Performers and stallholders have been contacted by email and the bazaar will go ahead tomorrow, Saturday, May 27, at the same venue.

River of Art is a 10 day festival of live music, theatre, film, visual arts, literature, creative workshops and cultural experiences held along the NSW far south coast, with its main focus on the Eurobodalla Shire, extending between Durras Lake in the north and Bermagui in the south. All events and activities are run by volunteers in collaboration with local businesses and the Eurobodalla Shire Council.

Among of the many highlights, which also include film showings and outdoor concerts, include the Narooma Camera Club Exhibition in the Montague Room at Club Narooma, 88 Princes Highway, Narooma. Chris Gunn’s paintings, “Sun on Water” will be exhibited at JJ’s at the Marina, 27 Beach Road, Batemans Bay.

And there’s art prizes abound at River of Art.

“Art of the Library”, the Book Art Prize show at the Moruya Library, was won by Deua Valley artist Keedah Throssell with her piece, “The Lifeship”, with  Catherine Speed’s “Curly Font” as runner-up.

The Eurobodalla River of Art 2016 Art Prize exhibition at the SoART Gallery in Narooma was also won by Keedah Throssell for her beeswax encaustic work titled “Invasion Day”. Commendations went to Ursula Straub for her clay and paper mache works “Bowl with Green and White Pebbles and Flying Kites”,  highly commended went to Cheryl Davison for “Corella Corella”, an acrylic on tagboard; and highly commended to Julie Mia Holmes for her linocut, “Midden Constellation”.

“Into the Future” is an exhibition of works by young artists featuring the inaugural Youth Art Prize, at the former Dick Smith Store, Village Centre, Perry Street, Batemans Bay.

The MASKED exhibition represents a culmination of creativity between local school kids and artists Toby Whitelaw and Anna Kearey and will be open between 1pm-5pm tomorrow, Saturday, May 28 at the Moruya Showground Pavilion. Here you’ll see masks, musical performances, audio visual displays and have the opportunity to create your own mask.
