‘Deliberately lit’ fire causes major damage

FIRE investigators believe that a suspicious fire, which occurred in Mawson last night (April 27) has been “deliberately lit”.

The fire on Heard Street was brought to the attention of ACT police at around 7pm after a large amount of smoke was observed coming from the roof of the Serbian Club, which has been closed since 2010.

The fire has since been extinguished but has caused major damage.

Following an analysis of the scene police and fire investigators believe the fire was deliberately lit and deemed it suspicious.

Investigations are ongoing.
