Help renew Gungahlin town centre

THE ACT government is calling on the community to help refresh the planning framework for Gungahlin town centre.Mick Gentleman

Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman, announced today that the Government is keen for community feedback on how urban planning can help the centre continue to prosper and grow.

“The Gungahlin town centre is a thriving place, attracting new residents, business and investment at a great rate, and will soon see the arrival of light rail,” says Gentleman.

The “planning refresh” will update the 2010 Gungahlin Town Centre Planning Study and will address new planning challenges and opportunities for the centre.

“It will weave in new Government initiatives around urban renewal, healthy weight, active travel and climate change adaptation,” Gentleman says.

“The planning refresh won’t impact works that are currently underway, but it will open up a community conversation around a number of key issues including building height and character, public places, walking, cycling and road transport.

“We will be asking how we can improve access to the centre for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as private and public transport.

“Following the community engagement and relevant stakeholder meetings, the government may propose changes to the Territory Plan that will also go through a community engagement process.”
