ARTWORKS by two local artists, Aboriginal elder Uncle Jimmy Williams and artist Hannah Quinlivan, have been selected to feature on light rail stops, light rail vehicles and buses.
“Uncle Jimmy Williams’ artwork will feature on the seat fabric onboard each light rail vehicle and on newly acquired Transport Canberra buses,” says Minister for Transport and City Services, Meegan Fitzharris.
“His artwork has been selected based on its inherent beauty, the ability to ‘transcribe’ into other mediums and importance to the traditional custodians of our land.
“The entire artwork depicts the flight of the bogong moth, an insect that is culturally significant to the local Ngunnawal People.”
Hannah Quinlivan’s artwork will feature on the glazed screens at each platform.
“The award winning artwork was chosen based on the artist’s passion for creating works that reflect Canberra’s landscape. The continuous pattern which represents human movement in the landscape of Canberra will bring a unique look to each stop,” Ms Fitzharris says.
