For one day only, visitors to the arboretum can drive and wander through some of the its most colourful and rare forests, usually closed to public cars.
The gates on River Road will open from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, September 16, allowing visitors to access areas of the arboretum from the comfort of their own vehicles. Visitors will be able to see two trees that are extinct in the wild – the Toromiro tree, native to Easter Island, and the Franklin tree, native to the US.
Friends of the Arboretum will host a free guided walks between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
