AN ACT government program offers rebates to Canberrans who replace wood heaters this winter.
“The ACT’s air quality is among the best in the country and we want to help keep it that way through initiatives such as the wood heater replacement program,” Mr Rattenbury says.
“During winter Tuggeranong can be particularly affected by wood smoke, which gets trapped in the valley. The fine particulate matter in this smoke is detrimental to our health and our air quality. Fortunately, it is steadily declining as a result of initiatives such as the Wood Heater Replacement program.”
Since 2004 the program has provided support for over 1000 households to help people replace their wood heaters with less polluting alternative heating sources, such as gas or electricity.
The program currently provides rebates for the removal and disposal of wood heaters with subsidies for low emission replacements through the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme.
