RSPCA in desperate need of adopters

RSPCA ACT has reached a critical capacity and is running a price promotion to desperately find adopters for cats, says CEO Tammy Ven Dange.

The adoption prices has been $99 for the past week and half to encourage more people to adopt a cat.

“No matter how many cats we have rehomed recently, there are more felines coming in than going out,” Ms Ven Dange says.

“As a result, we are beyond capacity and are working extremely hard to meet all of their mental and physical needs. However, the more cats that come in the harder this becomes.

“As much as we try to make the Shelter environment as comfortable as possible, many animals do not cope well surrounded by so many others. A Shelter is not a home.

“Already, a waiting list for surrendered cats has been established to try and manage the flow of felines through our doors.”

RSPCA ACT adopted out 138 felines in May compared to 214 in the same month in 2016.

RSPCA ACT has even desexed over 800 felines for free in the last two years as part of their Frisky Tom campaign.

“Despite our best efforts to help control the unwanted population of cats in the community, it still falls upon individual owners to get their felines desexed and microchipped before we will see a reduction in the number of cats that come into the Shelter every year,” Ms Ven Dange says.

The adult cat price promotion of $99 will continue to end of day Saturday, June 10.
