Search for bus station smasher

OVER the past week, around eight ACTION bus shelters have been damaged throughout Ngunnawal and Gungahlin.

Damage to Canberra bus shelter.
Police patrolling the Gungahlin area on Tuesday morning (June 20) noticed glass panels and advertising frames at eight bus shelters had been smashed.

The previous week it was reported that around 15 bus shelters in the Gungahlin area had glass panels or advertising frames smashed overnight on June 15.

ACT Policing is investigating and are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen or heard suspicious activity near bus shelters in Gungahlin overnight on Thursday into Friday morning  (June 15-16) or overnight on Monday into Tuesday morning (June 19-20).

Officer in charge of Gungahlin Station, acting station sergeant Steve Rollings says he is disappointed to see this type of meaningless destruction.

“It’s disappointing to see such senseless damage, the cost of which is estimated to be at least $10,000,” he says.

“We urging anyone who lives near a bus shelter that has been damaged to check any CCTV they may have and contact police if they have any record of suspicious behaviour over Thursday or Monday night.”

“People may have heard something or seen someone behaving suspiciously near a bus shelter. Even if it seems small, it may help police in our investigation.”
