Street dealers caught with drugs

OVER the weekend, as part of an operation targeting drugs and drug dealing in Canberra’s entertainment district, police obtained nine seizures of MDMA and 10 seizures of cocaine.

As part of Operation Ghar, members from the Drugs and Organised Crime Team and Regional Targeting Team, were out in plain-clothes patrolling clubs, laneways and carparks.

Crime manager, detective sergeant Mark Steel says we want everyone to enjoy themselves without putting themselves at risk with illicit drugs.

“Not only is it illegal, but also unsafe. You never know what you are ingesting, and how those chemicals will affect you,” he says.

“These targeted operations will be continuing, so we are encouraging anyone with information regarding drug dealing in the CBD to come forward and speak with police.”

A number of persons were taken into custody, and will be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date on charges including possession, and sale and supply.

Any information about drug dealing in Canberra’s CBD, please report via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au
