Teen charged after punching policeman

POLICE have arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly punched an officer in the face several times with a closed fist early on Saturday morning, September 9.

At around 3.30am officers from City Police Station’s Regional Targeting Team when attempting to take the man into protective custody, he became aggressive and punched the police officer before being restrained.

The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and obstruct/resist territory public official.

The police officer suffered swelling and bruising to his face, but didn’t require medical treatment.
