Ticket buyers warned of unreliable site

A HANDFUL of complaints have been brought to the attention of Access Canberra about the sale of tickets that don’t exist, overcharging, no refunds, late delivery and added “booking fees” from ticket re-seller Viagogo.

Shane Rattenbury.
Minister for Consumer Affairs Shane Rattenbury says nationally about 250 complaints have been received against Viagogo and urges consumers to take their money elsewhere.

“While locally we have received a number of complaints, we are concerned to hear that Viagogo has shown little interest in the rights of consumers, who often lay out hundreds of dollars to attend events,” Mr Rattenbury says.

“Don’t take the risk—instead, buy your tickets through an authorised agency, and you’re guaranteed access to your favourite events.

“We, along with other jurisdictions, are getting the message out there—until they take the rights of consumers seriously, Viagogo are a no-go.”

Mr Rattenbury says Canberrans are encouraged to:

  • Do their research, and make sure they’re buying from an authorised ticket outlet
  • Sign up for their favourite artists’ mailing list and social media accounts to find out important and accurate event information
  • Read the terms and conditions carefully before and after purchase
  • Report any concerns to Access Canberra.
