‘Towards Wee Jasper’, by Rod Burgess
“NEXUS” is an exhibition mounted by 23 members of the 27-year-old Southside Camera Club that includes examples of portraiture, landscapes, flora and fauna, and the connection between the photographer and the surrounding environment. THE National Gallery of Australia will help children search for dragons in “Create Space: In search of dragons”, Asian galleries, 10.30am–12.30pm, June 2-3. Free, no bookings required but children to be accompanied.

PHOTOACCESS presents “American Daydream”, which illustrates images of “his” America by Samuel Townsend, “Cultured”, a “microscopy” exhibition by Josephine Cosgrove and “Beyond Bestimmung”, which shows photography and video exploring predetermination, by Ellen Dahl. Huw Davies Gallery, Manuka Arts Centre, May 31 to June 24. Opening by Denise Ferris, Head, School of Art & Design, at 6pm, on Thursday, May 31. 

THE Friends of the National Library of Australia have a creative arts fellowship which offers a creative practitioner or artist the opportunity to undertake a sustained period of intensive work at the library. It’s open to established and emerging artists and applications for the 2019 fellowship are now open until July 1 at nla.gov.au/awards-and-grants

BELCONNEN Arts Centre has three new shows: “Places” by Solomon Grainger; “Discomfort” by Joshua Sleeman-Taylor; and “On The Table” by Paul Dumetz. All opening at the centre, Emu Bank Belconnen, 6pm, Friday, June 1. 

AS part of Reconciliation Week and in conjunction with the exhibition “In these Hands: Mara nyangangka”, Canberra educator, author and ceramicist Janet DeBoos, will give a floor talk in Craft ACT’s Craft and Design Centre, Level 1, North building, Civic, at 12.30pm, Thursday, May 31.

BILK Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition called “In Light Of” by Kath Inglis, well known to patrons of Bilk, where she has regularly exhibited for over 10 years. Inglis is a jeweller who works with one material – PVC. She expertly dyes, carves and/or fuses this seemingly ordinary sheet plastic to create jewellery pieces. Bilk gallery, Palmerston Lane, Manuka, May 30 to July 6, opening with Kath Inglis 11am to 4pm, Saturday, June 2. 

QUEANBEYAN Art Society’s 11th annual Charity Art Show in springtime will be an arts market held around the Charity Art Show marquee in the area between the merry-go-round and  the fountain in City Walk, Civic. The society is keen to get the stalls hired and to have artists prepare their works for entry. All inquiries to QAS president Barry Cranston at 0439 392709.
