NISHI Gallery is opening an exhibition about landscapes and colourscapes through photography and conceptual jewellery this weekend. Curated by Yasmin Masri, “Greybilly” explores the search for and creation of, what is precious and the reality of finite resources through photographs by Melbourne-based artist Abigail Varney and conceptual jewellery by Sydney-artist Nina Baker. At Nishi Gallery, 17 Kendall Lane, NewActon, opens 6pm, Friday, August 3 (all welcome) and runs until September 29.

Satirist Bryan Dawe
ARTIST and humourist Bryan Dawe will be in conversation over champagne in “A Satirist’s Journey From Port Adelaide to Tangier”. During the talk, visitor’s will meet Dawe’s two characters Roly Parks from Kalangadoo and Sir Murray Rivers QC. He will also discusses his long collaboration with the late John Clarke and his recent art exhibition, “Passage”. At Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, 6.30pm, Friday, August 3. ARTIST Kellie O’Dempsey has been inviting NGA visitors into her living sketchbook since June, and tonight in the gallery’s “NGA Play” space, she’ll be performing there for the last time on August 3, joined by dancers from the Australian Dance Party. “The never-ending line”, NGA Play area, National Gallery of Australia, 6pm-8pm, Friday, August 3. Free for children under 15 but bookings essential to nga.gov.au The exhibition continues until October 28.

THE M16 Drawing Prize for “all kinds of drawing that extends understanding of what drawing could be” is now open to entries. The judges will be Alison Alder, who is head of Printmedia and Drawing at ANU and Christopher Chapman from the National Portrait Gallery. Entries and details to m16artspace.com.au

M16 Artspace’s “Confident Collecting 2018: Ahead of the Curve” series winds up with a focus on textiles by three Canberra textile artists with international profiles, Valerie Kirk, Jennifer Robertson and Ruby Berry. STRATHNAIRN is soon hosting an introduction to bronze casting masterclass with sculptor Alex Kosmas in which people will learn aspects of casting, direct wax modelling, investment moulding process, bronze casting and finishing (chasing), and patination. “WHAT Four” is a group exhibition by Andres Caycedo, Jane Horton, Rajan Reddy and Gemma Simpson, who are aiming at “the transformation of a space to achieve visual pleasure”. Canberra Grammar School Gallery, 40 Monaro Crescent, Red Hill, opening at 4pm this Saturday, August 4 (all welcome) and continuing until August 25.
