GALLERY@BCS Springboard Series presents “Transit”, a digital media exhibition by its “Emerging Artist Support Scheme” prize winner, Amandeep Kaur, from the 2017 ANU School of Art & Design Graduating Exhibition. Kaur depicts varied dream like states using photographs from her recent travels through Switzerland and India. ALLIANCE Française de Canberra has an exhibition, “Perennial Experience”, depicting emotions, memories and commitment behind the objects created by five emerging artists of the ANU School of Art and Design, Ellen Rosalie Gunner, Ceilidh Dalton, Talfryn Davies, Romany Fairall and Naomi Taylor Royds. At 66 McCaughey Street, Turner, from August 16 to September 6. The opening night, with French wine and cheese, is from 7pm-10pm, August 16. Everyone is welcome and works will be for sale.

ELIZABETH Cameron Dalman and Andreas Dalman are launching the book of their late husband and father, Jan Dalman, “Out of silence – Marcel Marceau”. The book contains 75 evocative photographs by Dalman taken between 1965 and 2003 of Marceau as he performed to audiences in Adelaide, South Australia and Melbourne, Victoria. The launch will be led by the director of Canberra Museum and Gallery, Shane Breynard, at the National Portrait Gallery, from 2pm, Saturday, August 18. The event is public but seating in the Liangis Theatre is limited.

TUGGERANONG Arts Centre has two new exhibitions: “Hinterland”, features works from Tulgeen Disability Services Art in the Garage that are full of colour and strength and assert the art and the artists’ right to be included, recognised and applauded within the community, not in its hinterlands; and “Winged Fables” by sculptor Rhonda Castle, is the result of the TAC exhibition prize at Sculpture in the Paddock, Yass, in 2017. In it, Castle explores birds in myths, traditions and cultures of the world with sculptures comprised mainly of folded and painted zinc anneal. At Tuggeranong Arts Centre until Saturday, August 25.

THERE are two new exhibitions at Beaver Galleries. “Last light”, by Canberra artist Alexander Boynes, reflects on the loss of the Australian landscape driven by the fossil fuel industry. Then, in “Somewhere familiar: studio glass”, Annette Blair’s glass sculptures explore the common connections to place and a nostalgic sense of home. Both at 81 Denison Street, Deakin, 10am-5pm, Tuesday to Friday, and 9am-5pm, Saturday to Sunday, from August 16 to September 2.

HELEN Stephens Gallery opened in Sydney in 2007 and has now reopened in Collector. She has a new exhibition, “Small Wonders – evocative landscapes”, which is an exhibition of recent work by Ashley Morgan, inspired by the landscape around Hanging Rock, Victoria. At 39 Murray Street, Collector, 11am-4pm, Friday to Sunday. An opening and “meet the artist” will be from 2pm, Sunday, August 19. All welcome.

FORM Studio and Gallery has two new exhibitions: Carmel McCrow’s “Blue Skies?” is a collection of skyscape-inspired oil paintings; Kim Shannon’s “The Gift” is an exhibition of expressive still life paintings. 1/30 Aurora Avenue, Queanbeyan, Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 4pm, until September 2. EUROBODALLA Council has this year expanded its Basil Sellers Art Prize to accept entries from artists from across NSW and the ACT. The open contemporary art prize offers a prize pool of more than $25,000, with the $20,000 major prize winner’s work acquired by philanthropist and businessman Basil Sellers, which will be placed in his art collection. Entries can include 2D works of any medium, excluding photography and digital media. Entries to esc.nsw.gov.au/artprize by 4pm, September 10.

CRAFTACT on Level 2, North Building, Civic, has a Science Week event with master glass artist, Elizabeth Kelly at 12.30pm, this Friday, August 17. Her latest work, “Macrocosmia”, is a collaboration with an engineer and an astrophysicist from ANU. All welcome.

CONTEMPORARY ceramic artist Mahala Hill was selected by Canberra Potters from the 2017 ANU School of Art and Design ceramics graduates to exhibit her work at Watson Arts Centre. Hill’s practice focuses on the “burn out”, which is the remnant shell-like form that emerges from inside a layer of liquid clay after the combustible organic plant material has incinerated.
