“SILVER and gold: unique Australian objects 1830 – 1910” is showing at the Royal Australian Mint’s main gallery in Deakin until April 8. The NGA’s Beatrice Thompson will share specialist insights about the rare 19th and 20th century silver and gold objects on show. At the Mint, Denison Street Deakin, 6pm– 7.30pm, Wednesday, March 28. ALEXANDER Boynes has curated an exhibition of contemporary ACT talent called “Straight Outta Canberra”, with works by Tom Buckland, Tony Curran, Sanne Koelemij, Julian Laffan, Rosalind Lemoh, Cat Mueller, Dionisia Salas, Rebecca Selleck. “In the space of a decade,” Boynes says, “the national capital has gone from being a place where residents said ‘Don’t tell anyone I’m from Canberra’ to now saying ‘tell anyone ABOUT Canberra’.”

THE National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition for 2018 is at the National Portrait Gallery 10am–5pm daily until Sunday, June 17, before touring to regional locations.

SMITH’S Alternative is styling itself as a “gallery/café” for the Belconnen Artists’ Network annual exhibition, which this year will follow the theme “Illusion”, explored by painters, photographers and sculptors. Alinga Street, Civic, until April 23.
