“THE Magnolia Tree”, written and directed by Michael Griffith, aims to shock and confound as it deals with issues surrounding dementia. Filled with family secrets and fractured relationships, the play sees a family gathered in the living room of their mother’s house where Jack tries to convince his two sisters to take the life of their mother. Australian String Quartet… coming to Gandel Hall.

THE Australian String Quartet’s national season begins with an eclectic concert including Philip Glass’ String Quartet no 3, “Mishima”, Brett Dean’s String Quartet no 1, “Eclipse”, and Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in D major op 44 no 1. ANDREW Pike’s “right-hand person” at Ronin Films, Sue Faulkner, has retired after some 33 years with the company. She was the graphic artist who gave Ronin a public face through her collectible DVD covers, leaflets, posters and though press advertising for releases such as “Strictly Ballroom” and “Shine”. Before she left, she helped with Ronin’s move from Civic to Mitchell.

THE St Kilda Festival is back in Melbourne on Sunday, February 11, and Canberra act The Ians will feature. They’re a group of self-styled hotheads who go by the single names of Nic, Matt, Tim and Dan (but not Ian). They’ve capitalised on the rise of the “lemon-rock” genre, a combination of jangle-pop, punk, rockabilly, grunge, country, hard rock, British Invasion and blues-rock.

THE Canberra Opera Recital Series begins its inaugural recital with local singer Keren Dalzell as the featured artist and with accompaniment by regular music director Kathleen Loh.
