SUPERSTAR cellist Steven Isserlis is coming back to town to play Shostakovich’s first cello concerto with the Australian Chamber Orchestra on the 1726 Marquis de Coberon Stradivarius cello. The program will feature world premieres of the new work, “A Knock One Night,” commissioned by Mirek Generowicz from Elena Kats-Chernin and a work by US composer Samuel Adams. “JUST Like Clockwork: A Musical,” will debut on the Tuggeranong Theatre stage this weekend. Children in the centre’s Community Arts and Cultural Development Program have devised a plot that revolves around a curious inventor and her snow leopard friend, with a cast of unicorns, talking pizzas and a moustachioed dinosaur. Block sounds and Walking the Dog.
CANBERRA’S  recorder ensemble, Block Sounds, comprising Olivia Gossip, sisters Elana and Shae Leske and directed by Robyn Mellor, will join recorder quintet Walking the Dog in a program to suit the “vaulting spaces” of the High Court, where they will perform the music of Giovanni Gabrielli. THE Resonants, directed by Helen Swan, and soprano Louise Page will join to perform choruses and songs from much loved Broadway musicals, including “Les Miserables”, “Oklahoma” and “West Side Story”. LADY’S Mantle, the Canberra women’s choir directed by Maia Harrison, will be presenting “Perchance to Dream,” words of Shakespeare brought to life in music, with courtly music of the Renaissance and sacred music of Tomas Luis de Victoria.
