MUSIC curator for the Art Not Apart Festival, Frank Madrid, says his events are “pet friendly”. He’s put together an eclectic program ranging from punk to opera, from industrial to dance, blues, intelligent pop, urban classical, country, world and more. Chenoeh Miller has curated the other performing arts events, including work by Alison Plevey’s Australian Dance Party. The festival runs in the NewActon Precinct, The Academy of Sciences and the National Film and Sound Archive, 1pm-7pm,  Saturday, March 17. Free.

DAVID Auburn‘s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play “Proof” centre’s around a mathematician, his two daughters, a former student and a mathematical “proof” discovered after the mathematician’s death. It ran for 917 performances on Broadway and in a new production will be at The Q, Queanbeyan, until Saturday, March 17. Bookings to theq.net.au or 6285 6290.

Vigil for the Moon
AS an adjunct to Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s searing exhibition “Another Day in Paradise”, young performers from across Canberra will present “A Vigil for the Moon”, featuring performances by the Woden Valley Youth Choir’s Australis and Centauri Voices, the Fresh Funk dance ensemble, cellist Ariel Chou and others. 2pm and 4pm, Saturday, March 17. The National Film and Sound Archive will join other Canberra cultural institutions in celebrating the Enlighten festival with a line-up of “weird and whimsical” movies in “Nights at the Circus”, running from this Saturday March 17 to April 6. Bookings to nfsa.gov.au

Alina Ibragimova
RUSSIAN-born violinist Alina Ibragimova directs the Australian Chamber Orchestra in the emotionally-charged “Death and the Maiden” tour, named after Schubert’s dark composition, now arranged for string orchestra. Llewellyn Hall at 8pm on March 17. Bookings to aco.com.au

DOCUMENTARY film “In Search of Orpheus”, by Tzeli Hadjidimitriou, a fine art photographer, cinematographer and travel writer from Lesbos, will be screened at the Hellenic Club, 6pm, Sunday, March 18.

Jan Preston

The Song Company
THE Song Company pays homage to a master of Renaissance music, William Byrd, who, on a round table in this country house, sang with friends sang from “partbooks” and created musical artistry. They’ll be performing “Byrd-Round-Table” at Wesley Uniting Church, 7pm, Friday, March 16.
