‘Biscuit’ euthanised after Wanniassa dog attack

FOLLOWING $8000 worth of surgery, Biscuit, a “much loved” family dog has been euthanised two weeks after he was mauled by another dog in Wanniassa in June.

Nicole Lawder.
The 12-year-old Jack Russell had been “savagely” mauled while being walked on its lead with his owner near Trinity Christian School on June 18.

Shadow Minister for Urban Services Nicole Lawder said if the Canberra Liberals’ dog laws, which were presented to the Assembly last year, had been passed, this attacking dog would not be allowed back into the community.

“I am deeply troubled to hear of yet another unprovoked vicious dog attack in a public place,” Ms Lawder said.

“However, I am comforted knowing that Biscuit’s owner was not injured thanks to two male school students who rushed to her rescue.

“I understand the students helped contain the dog until the police and dog rangers arrived. I hope that none of the school kids were injured.

“No-one should have to go through this terrifying ordeal.

“To make an already traumatising situation worse, authorities have only made an effort to address the matter since the incident was raised with the Opposition.

“By failing to act, Labor and the Greens are ignoring animal cruelty in Canberra suburbs.

“They stubbornly refuse to take action to protect beloved family pets from vicious attacks. As a result, another Canberra couple is mourning the loss of their pet despite the brave efforts of young school kids who tried to help.

“Labor and the Greens should be ashamed for overlooking rampant animal cruelty perpetrated by dangerous dogs.”
