Canberra will get a new Minister this week

CANBERRA will have an eighth Minister by the end of the week after Chief Minister Andrew Barr opened the caucus process for a new Labor Minister.

Mr Barr says as Canberra grows, it needs to provide leadership in its expanding portfolio responsibilities.

“Both Tasmania and the Northern Territory have nine Ministers,” he says.

“The ACT, with eight, will continue to have the smallest executive of all the state and Territories.

“Canberra is now a city of 420,000 people. Our population is projected to reach half a million people in the next decade.”
