One Response to Crash closes part of Ginninderra Drive

Len Goodman, Belconnen says: 29 January 2018 at 8:14 pm

Am wondering if the accident was yet another at the notorious intersection of Ginninderra Drive and Tillyard Drive? If so, it is further evidence of a money saving shortcut when the intersection was modified as part of the government Black Spot Program. Despite calls for a roundabout to be made a cheaper alternative of some extra bits of concrete at the busy T-junction went ahead. The result has been several accidents with Tillyard entering and exiting traffic almost needing to run the gauntlet to cross Ginninderra to travel west and Ginninderra traffic wanting to cross onto Tillyard.

Labor MP Andrew Leigh was Chairman of the Black spot Committee but had a closed mind about the need for a roundabout based on his false view of the speed of Ginninderra east bound traffic. He was adamant that it would not reach 60 KPH from the the Florey Drive roundabout – whereas vehicles are doing 80 KPH at least from half way between!
