Four kids, no seat belts = big fine

POLICE have slapped five infringement notices on a man caught on Hindmarsh Drive, Phillip, driving with four children not wearing seat belts. The fines totalled $2056 and 12 demerit points.

About 4.45pm yesterday (February 26), police stopped a car with three unrestrained children in the backseat and a child in the boot. The man was issued with five infringement notices, three for no seatbelt (one year and older but under seven years), one for seatbelt not adjusted/fastened/restrained and one for travel in/on part of vehicle designed for carrying goods.

Acting officer in charge, Traffic Operations Paul Hutcheson said: “If you don’t wear a seatbelt and are involved in a collision, your chance of being seriously injured or even killed significantly increases.

“Always ensure children are restrained correctly, even when travelling at low speeds or on short trips.”
