High-speeding motorcyclist ‘gambles lives’

A MOTORCYCLIST was “gambling with the lives of other road users” when the rider was clocked doing 183km/h in an 80km/h zone on Yamba Drive, Isaacs, says officer in charge of traffic operations, acting station sergeant David Wills.

The rider was also observed travelling between lanes of traffic on several occasions at excessive speeds before being stopped by police on Saturday (August 18).

After police stopped the motorcyclist an inspection of the motorcycle revealed it had a defective rear tyre, so police issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 kilometres per hour, overtaking too closely to other vehicles, and for having non-standard (defective) tyres.

The rider was also issued with a defect notice.

Mr Wills says while police are urging all motorists to be aware of vulnerable road users this month, all road users still need to use common sense and obey the rules when driving or riding.

“Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable, so for this rider to exceed the speed limit by more than 100 kilometres an hour is galling. By doing so they are making themselves even more vulnerable,” he says.

“This rider is showing little to no regard for their own safety, and is gambling with the lives of other road users at the same time.”
