Leaking canister probably caused car explosion

POLICE believe a leaking gas canister may be the reason why a car exploded yesterday (August 2) in Conder, killing a man.

The explosion, which happened at about 4.55pm in the carpark of St Clare of Assisi Primary School on Heidelberg Street left a man, 51, in a critical condition in hospital, where he later died.

Police believe the incident is not suspicious.

Police are urging anyone who may have any information to contact 1800 333000, or via the website using reference number P1674490.
