Overnight fight with Namadgi park fire

Firefighters have worked overnight bring the fire at Potters Hill under control.

What started on Saturday as a prescribed 678-hectare fuel hazard reduction burn at Potters Hill, adjacent to Mt Clear campground in southern Namadgi National Park, turned troublesome when unforecasted severe weather conditions at the time of ignition caused the fire to jump containment lines.

ACT Emergency Services commissioner Dominic Lane credited fire crews on the ground for restricting the burn to less than 200 hectares in severe weather conditions.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire has been set at ADVICE, but its Fire Danger Rating is VERY HIGH, which means it can be difficult to control  and flames may burn into the tree tops. Embers may be blown ahead of the fire and spot fires may occur up to two kilometres ahead of the fire.
