Police seize guns and drugs in Calwell

GUNS and drugs were seized from a property and a car in Calwell overnight (August 6) during a targeted police operation.

During the targeted vehicle stop, a Calwell man, 36, and a Crace man, 21, were in the vehicle at the time when police found a loaded .357 calibre Ruger revolver.

A short time later, a search of the Calwell residence resulted in the seizure of a loaded 22/250 Ruger bolt action rifle, a shortened Marlin 9mm semi-automatic rifle and a magazine containing .45 calibre pistol rounds.

Police also seized a quantity of methamphetamine and a substance suspected to be MDMA.

Both men were arrested and 10 charges were laid as a result of yesterday and also stemming from a shooting incident on June 28 involving criminal gang members.

They are faced with charges such as unlawful possession of prohibited firearms (two counts), unauthorised possession of firearm (two counts), fail to correctly store firearm (three counts), possess ammunition (two counts) and possess prohibited weapon (one count).

The men will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (August 7).

Police are urging anyone who may have any information regarding illegal firearms or drugs to contact 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website
