Three vehicle crash closes Barton Highway

THE Barton Highway has been closed between Murrumbateman and the ACT border, Wallaroo, due to a “serious” three vehicle crash this morning (May 25).

Emergency services remain at the scene of a head-on crash, which occurred at about 8am. 

As a result of the head-on crash, one of the vehicles crashed into a third car. The driver and passengers of the third vehicle were not injured but two other passengers died at the scene.

Both drivers have been taken to hospital for mandatory testing and multiple passengers in both vehicles have been taken to hospital suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway will remain closed for some time while investigations are carried out by officers from The Hume Police District.

Emergency services including a helicopter is attending. 

Diversions around the crash site are in place. Motorists should check www.livetraffic.com for updates.
