<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <docID>329747</docID> <postdate>2024-09-25 17:42:11</postdate> <headline>Candidates crowding in for ACT election </headline> <body><p><strong>The October 19 ACT Legislative Assembly election will have 149 candidates vying for 25 MLA positions, with five seats available in each of the five electorates. </strong></p> <p>This is 12 more than 2020's 137 candidates and eight more than 2016's 141 hopefuls.</p> <p>The central electorate of Kurrajong has the highest number of candidates with 34 and the southern electorate of Brindabella the least, with 24.</p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">ACT Electoral Commissioner, Damian Cantwell said postal voting would begin on on Monday, September 30 and early voting on Tuesday, October 8, with </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">11 early voting centres available across Canberra for the election. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"All Canberrans are eligible to vote early from October 8, and we're committed to helping all eligible ACT electors participate in the electoral process.’ Mr Cantwell said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Under the ACT’s Robson Rotation method, the order of the printing of candidates’ names within each column will vary on each consecutive ballot paper.
