<headline>Heatwave warning for sweltering weekend</headline>

<p><strong>Canberra is in for a severe heatwave for from Saturday to Tuesday when temperatures are predicted to reach mid to high 30Cs with overnight temperatures mid teens and low 20Cs, the </strong><strong>Bureau of Meteorology predicts. </strong></p>
<p>"Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell," says BoM.</p>
<p>Locations likely to be impacted include Canberra, Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Woden Valley.</p>
<p>"Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.</p>

<p>"Severe heatwave conditions are predicted to ease during next week."</p>

<p>The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3pm on Saturday.</p>
<p><strong>ACT Ambulance Services advise Canberrans to:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><em>drink plenty of water,</em></li>
<li><em>never leave people or pets in cars,</em></li>
<li><em>seek out air-conditioned buildings,</em></li>
<li><em>dress in light and loose fabrics, plan ahead for activities in the coolest part of the day,</em></li>
<li><em>avoid exercising in the heat and</em></li>
<li><em>look after those most at risk.</em></li>
