Tributes have begun for a woman allegedly pursued and shot by two men, with her sister delivering a heartfelt plea.

A man hunt is underway after Chloe Jade Mason, 23, was found dead on a suburban Queensland street in the early hours of Sunday.

A homicide investigation has been launched, with police alleging Ms Mason had been assaulted by two men who had "chased her down".

There had been reports of up to four shots fired before Ms Mason's body was located with a gunshot wound, police said.

Her sister Hannah McKone led tributes for Ms Mason on social media, organising a fundraiser for her sibling's funeral.

"Being so close to Christmas her family has no savings or financial means to give her a funeral," she wrote on GoFundMe.

"We are graciously asking for help and support in this. All funds donated will be directly utilised for Chloe's funeral service."

By Monday morning, more than $7000 had been raised on the GoFundMe account.

"Grieving the life you never got to have and the experiences we didn't get the chance to share - you would've been the most amazing mother," Ms McKone posted on Facebook.

Officers were called to Railway Parade north of Brisbane after reports of a targeted attack about 12.10am on Sunday, police said.

Ms Mason was unconscious when located, could not be revived and declared dead at the scene.

"Early investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted by two male persons who may have chased her down Railway Parade," Detective Inspector David Harbison told reporters.

Police believe Ms Mason received a gunshot wound during the assault and that it was not a random attack.

A number of witnesses are currently assisting police.

"It's an incredibly sad event for this woman and her family … it's a tragedy to lose a young life in such a violent manner, so we will get to the bottom of it," Det Insp Harbison said.

"It's the best we can do for the family at the moment, but we wish our condolences."
