<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <docID>337276</docID> <postdate>2025-01-30 14:10:07</postdate> <headline>21-year-old on manslaughter charge from 2020 assault</headline> <body><div> <p><strong>A 21-year-old Banks man is facing the ACT Children's Court charged with manslaughter following an incident in 2020.</strong></p> </div> <div> <p>On April 12 2020 a 46-year-old man was violently assaulted at a gathering occurred at a home in Banks. At the time, the victim refused further medical treatment and police involvement.</p> </div> <div> <p>However, on April 25 the victim went into cardiac arrest at his home and, despite the efforts of paramedics, died.</p> </div> <div> <p>Police say a postmortem indicated the man’s death was as a result of blunt force trauma and they began investigating, but ultimately decided not to proceed with charges.</p> </div> <div> <p>Last year, as part of a review of unresolved matters held by ACT Criminal Investigations, the ACT Homicide Squad reactivated the investigation.</p> </div> <div> <p>Earlier on Thursday, police searched a home in Banks and subsequently arrested and charged the 21-year-old man with manslaughter. He he was aged 17 at the time of the alleged offence.</p> </div> <div> <p> </p> </div> </body>
