<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <docID>339381</docID> <postdate>2025-03-01 11:17:30</postdate> <headline>Police toll: one broken leg and two officers assaulted</headline> <body><div id="component_280817"> <p><strong>Two police officers were assaulted and another suffered a broken leg during two separate incidents in Canberra early on Saturday morning.</strong></p> <p>About 1.50am on Saturday police were arresting a man believed to have damaged property during a disturbance in McKellar when he allegedly became aggressive and lashed out at police, kicking one officer and causing a hand injury to another.</p> <p>He was charged with two counts of assaulting a frontline community service provider, as well as resisting a territory public official and property damage.</p> <p>At around 3am, police were separating an arguing couple outside a Civic bar when the man, yelling and acting aggressively, allegedly ran at the woman.</p> <p>Police say officers attempted to place the man under arrest, but both the man and woman resisted, resulting in one officer breaking his leg.</p> <p>The pair were subsequently charged with resisting a territory public official. The man was also charged with breaching the peace.</p> </div> </body>
