<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <docID>339505</docID> <postdate>2025-03-03 10:20:46</postdate> <headline>Baby joy for former federal staffer Brittany Higgins</headline> <body><p><img class=" wp-image-339506" src="https://citynews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot-2025-03-03-at-10.16.12 am-e1740957471665.jpg" alt="" width="744" height="496" /></p> <caption>The Instagram photo of Brittany Higgins' baby son.</caption> <p><span class="kicker-line">By <strong>Melissa Meehan</strong></span></p> <p><strong>Brittany Higgins has given birth to a baby boy. </strong></p> <p>The former federal staffer announced the news on Instagram on Sunday night.</p> <p>In the photo Ms Higgins shared, the baby is covered in a blanket with his face covered by a love heart sticker.</p> <p>"Last night we welcomed our little boy into the world," Ms Higgins posted.</p> <p>"We're both looking forward to getting to dote on the newest member of the family."</p> <p>By Monday morning the post had almost 7500 likes.</p> <p>Ms Higgins and her husband David Sharaz did not share their son's name or other details of the birth.</p> <p>Ms Higgins was thrown into the public spotlight in 2021 when she claimed she had been sexually assaulted in Parliament House by her colleague Bruce Lehrmann.</p> <p>Lehrmann's trial for the alleged rape 2019 was abandoned in October 2022 because of juror misconduct.</p> <p>A retrial did not occur because of concerns for Ms Higgins' mental health.</p> <p>Lehrmann, who has maintained his innocence, sued media outlets for defamation in civil action in the Federal Court, which ultimately found he had raped Ms Higgins.</p> </body>
