Charge of the Cavalry

Sport Minister Andrew Barr will tonight deliver the first pitch at the home debut of Canberra’s national baseball side, the Canberra Cavalry.

The Minister will also officially open the newly re-developed Narrabundah Ball Park.

Here’s a bird’s-eye view of the new park taken from a giant cherry picker, used for changing stadium light globes. In an experience that might leave other snappers shaken and on their knees, it lifted fearless SILAS BROWN 40.1 metres into the sky for these shots.

“It has been 12 months to the day since the grass roots campaign for a Canberra team in this new Australian Baseball League (ABL) reached a successful conclusion,” he said.

“The ACT Government strongly supported the aspirations of the local baseball community to be a part of the ABL, most significantly through the upgrade of the Narrabundah Ball Park.

“When the Cavalry take the field tonight, the facility will be markedly different from the way it looked only four months ago. A $2 million upgrade has taken place in a very short space of time and in spite of our  wettest spring in years.”
