Queanbeyan Flood: on the scene with Silas Brown

Today Queanbeyan is experiencing the worst flooding since the 1970s, with the river rising above 10 metres, Riverside Plaza carpark under water, the caravan park and schools evacuated and police saying to avoid travelling to and through the town with roads blocked in all directions.

UPDATE The ABC have reported the Queanbeyan River has peaked at 8.4 metres and the area has been declared a national disaster zone.

CityNews photographer Silas Brown is at the scene and filed these images:

Hi Anita,

At this stage these roads have been evacuated:

* Trinculo Place
* Areas in Mowatt St
* Forbes St
* Anthill St
* Collette St
* Monaro St
* Waniassa St
* Atkinson st
* Corinnia St

We aren't aware of any roads being reopened in Queanbeyan, but the SES say late this afternoon things will clear up.
