Urban Chickens: The facts

Chickens in back yards are cool. Yes they are. But you should learn some stuff about stuff before you buy your own brood.

Legislation: Yes this is Canberra, the chook capital of Australia and yes, we like laws. In 1995 we passed the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Captive Birds, the most comprehensive piece of legislation you’re likely to read on having birds in your backyard. Read it and be amazed. (Thank you, Gary Humphries)

Health regulations: Some tips on how not to get sick from keeping chooks so close to people.

More information: Thanks to the RSPCA and the CSIRO there are many many things to know about how you should keep them in their little houses and how you should feed them and lots of other important things.

Talk to other people: Backyard poultry, everything you ever wanted to know about chickens, plus other people to answer your questions.

There you go. Knowledge. Chickens. Power.
