Canberra icons in the pink

PARLIAMENT House, Old Parliament House, the National Library of Australia, Questacon and Black Mountain Tower will be illuminated in pink on Thursday, October 20 as part of an international campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Canberra’s Global Illumination, under the auspices of the  National Breast Cancer Foundation, aims to bring awareness and to raise funds for breast cancer during breast cancer awareness month. Global Illumination Australia has raised more than $3 million for breast cancer research.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading community-funded organisation in Australia raising money for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

Since NBCF was established in 1994, more than $74 million has been awarded to fund more than  300 Australian-based research, to improve the health and well being of those affected by breast cancer.The foundation has the goal of  zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. About 14,000 Australian women and their families each year are affected by breast cancer each year.
