Canberra remembers 9/11

CANBERRANS are invited to a national commemoration ceremony at the US Embassy to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

The 10th Anniversary of 9/11 – A Day of Service and Remembrance will be hosted by US ambassador Jeffrey L Bleich.

The ceremony will include addresses by ambassador Bleich and Prime Minister Julia Gillard, a tribute by ACT Emergency Services Agency commissioner Mark Crosweller, and an ode by St John Ambulance cadet Adrian Bury.

The event will also feature a flag party of Australian Federal Police and US Marine Corps representatives, the Australian Federal Police Pipe and Drums, and the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon.

People are invited to bring a candle to light and spread a blanket on the Commonwealth Place lawn.

The ceremony starts at 5pm but traffic routes and parking in the area will be affected after 4pm. Sunday, September 11 at Commonwealth Place (cupped square forecourt). More information at http://canberra.usembassy.gov/9-11.html
