Thievery in car parks

LYNEHAM has seen a spate of car break-ins at car parks over the past month.

Last night seven cars were broken into at the Netball Centre, adding to the 40-car break-ins at the nearby Hockey Centre car park over the past five weeks.

This morning, cars parked in McLuckie Crescent and Wiburd Street in Banks had their windows smashed and locks damaged and although a number of glove boxes were searched by offenders, no items were reported stolen.

Acting superintendent Peter Davis said the break-ins are opportunistic with members of the public leaving their valuables in plain view.

“Unfortunately, most of these thefts are due to poor security practices, most of the vehicles hit have valuable items left in plain view,” he said.

“The offenders are targeting property such as wallets, cash and sporting equipment, so we urge people to take these items with them when the leave the vehicle.”

Any information on suspicious people in car parks are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000 or visit www.act.crimestoppers.com.au
