Civic office evacuated

ABOUT 80 staff were removed from one floor of an office building in Civic following concerns about air quality.

Health directorate director general Dr Peggy Brown said investigations into the cause of the problems are continuing but it appears to be related to a lack of ventilation caused by faulty air conditioning.

“As a precaution, staff in the affected area on level five of the offices at Number One Moore Street, Civic, will be relocated to Curtin until the matter is resolved,” Dr Brown said.

“I can reassure the community that at this stage there are no health concerns associated with air flow for those people attending appointments on levels one to four and they should continue to attend appointments.

“The Health Directorate is taking this matter very seriously and will continue to take appropriate action to protect the health of our staff and our customers.

“There is no evidence that a similar problem exists in other parts of the building but we have asked the building managers to undertake an air quality assessment on all floors.

“We have advised all staff who have concerns about their health and well-being to contact their local GP.”

Dr Brown said the area affected was not accessible to members of the public.
