Countdown to Summernats

Summernats 25 at Exhibition Park in Canberra from the January 5 – 8, 2012.

WITH only 100 days to go, the countdown for the Street Machine Summernats 25 Chrome Jubilee has begun.

Next year will be the last contracted year for Summernats to be staged at Exhibition Park however there are discussions between organisers and the ACT Government about securing the long term future of the event in the ACT.

“There’s a way to go yet before we can make any firm decision on the future of the Summernats in the ACT, but it’s fair to say that discussions between the Nats and the Government have been positive so far,” Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez said.

Summernats 25 will see the return of favourites including the National Burnout Masters, beasts of Tuff Street, the Elite Top 60, Show ‘n’ Shine, Miss Summernats, the awarding of the Grand Champion and after three years, Horsepower Heroes will make a return.

Summernats 24 champion Gary Myers will return to defend his National Burnout Masters crown.

This year will also include concerts featuring Drapht, Children Collide, Nat Cole and the Kings and The Screaming Jets.

“It’s great to officially start the countdown to Summernats 25,” Mr Lopez said.

“And with only 100 days to go, entrant numbers are tracking at 20 per cent higher than this time last year. This means we’ll have heaps more of Australia’s best street machines on show – and that’s what the Nats are all about.”

New features to the event, include entrant cruising through the world famous burnout track, Muscle Car Sunday, a display of factory muscle cars, and an opening Thursday night drive-in screening of “Mad Max”.

Summernats 25 will be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra from the January 5 – 8, 2012.  Tickets at www.summernats.com.au. All Summernats’ entertainment and concert events are included in the ticket price.
